The Windsor Lancers women's hockey team took the ice Saturday afternoon looking to pick up their first win of 2018. Unfortunately, the Blue and Gold could only muster one goal as they fell to the Lions 3-1.
GAME STATS
The shot battle was incredibly close with the Lions putting 30 pucks on targets to the Lancers' 28.
Special teams were a big part of the game with the Lions killing all six of their penalties, and the Lancers killing off five of their six. Windsor's lone goal came while they were killing off a penalty.
Lancer goaltender
Morgan Farrow stopped 27 of the 30 shots she faced, while York netminder Lauren Dubie stopped all but one of her 28 shots.
GAME FLOW
The Lions were the first team to get on the board breaking the scoreless tie at the 12:53 mark of the first period. York forward Courtney Gardiner was able to beat
Morgan Farrow off assists from Kayla Hosegood and Cynthia St-Cyr. After the goal the Lancers were able to tighten up and get to the break down 1-0 after 20 minutes.
In the second period the Lancers were able to make the best out of a bad situation. Halfway through the second period while killing a penalty,
Amy Maitre was able to fire one past Lions goaltender Lauren Dubie. The goal, assisted by
Muna Fadel tied the game just as the Lions' power play came to a close.
Any momentum gained from the goal was short-lived however as Jenna Gray put the Lions ahead two minutes later. Shortly after Gray's goal, Lions forward Erin Locke beat
Morgan Farrow for the game clincher. The Lancers couldn't find the net again and fell for the third time in 2018, 3-1.
