Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Men's Hockey edged by Warriors in shoot-out

The Windsor Lancers men's hockey team hit the ice looking to repeat the high scoring, exciting affair they had Friday night when they used five unanswered goals to come from behind to beat the Waterloo Warriors.

Simply put, the only way Saturday's game was similar to Fridays was the same two teams were on the ice. The Lancers and Warriors were at it again as the Lancers were continuing their trek towards the playoffs. Unfortunately, the Lancers road to the playoffs came with a slight speed bump as they lost 2-1 to the Warriors in a shoot-out.

Despite the loss, the Lancers (7-10-7) are still one game ahead of the Warriors in the standings and continue to hold onto the last playoff spot. The Warriors (8-12-3) have one game in hand to Windsor heading into the final weeks of the season.

Game Stats
Both goalies played spectacularly between the pipes. Jonathan Reinhard made 25 saves on 26 shots while the Warriors' Mike Morrison stopped 29 of the 30 shots that came his way.

Compared to Friday night's chippy affair, both teams were only called for penalties four times and served eight minutes in the box with neither team gave up a short-handed goal.

GAME FLOW
In stark contrast to Friday's game, today's matchup put the goalies centre stage as the Reinhart and Morrison stonewalled all who came their way. The first period was a pitchers' duel with no goals scored.

Seven minutes into the second period, Waterloo's Nick Halagian got one past Reinhart with assists from Ryan Hanes and Michael Siddall. The goal was the only of the period and, given the nature of the game to that point it looked as though the goal might be enough. Late in the third, with seven minutes to go, Lancers captain Blake Blondeel was able to knot the game up at one apiece with some help from Ian Parker and Kody Gagnon. The Lancers went on to lose in a shootout though, but still got a point for their effort.

UP NEXT
The Lancers are back on the ice next Friday, Feb. 2 at South Windsor Arena when they take on the Lakehead Thunderwolves. Puck drop is at 7:30pm and can be seen live at OUA.tv.
