Women's Volleyball sweeps Breast Cancer Weekend
The Windsor Lancers women's volleyball took to the court donning pink uniforms for breast cancer awareness this weekend at the St. Denis Centre. The Lancers kicked off the weekend with a 3-1 (25-17, 16-25, 25-15, 25-21) over the York Lions on Saturday afternoon, before closing out the weekend with a three set sweep of the Nipissing Lakers (25-21, 25-21, 25-23).
With the two victories, Windsor (6-8) moves into third place in the OUA west division.
SATURDAY vs York
Carleigh Bailey led all players in digs. The current OUA dig leader posted 15 digs in four sets of action. York's defensive effort was led by Sabah Kalim who recorded 10 digs in four sets for the Lions.
Lexi Pollard had a day, registering 10 kills to lead the Lancers offense. Pollard was only outscored by York's Celete Witzell who was credited with 14 kills for the Lions. The Lancers had a great day from the service line, scoring on aces 10 times to the Lions' five. Pollard led the way four for the Lancers while the Lions were paced Shiara Da Sailva who scored two aces.
Game Flow
The Lancers jumped on the visiting Lions in the first set, jumping out to a 10-1 lead. Rachel Cauchi led the Lancers offense in the first set, posting four kills for the Lancers.
Lexi Pollard chipped in three aces as the Lancers took the first set 25-17.
In the second set the Lions fought back hard. Determine not to fall behind early like they did in the first set, the Lions battled hard to keep the game close and even took a lead midway through the second set. Celeste Witzell recorded three kills as the Lions took the second set, 25-16.
In the third set the Lancers resembled the squad that had gone up 10-1 in the first set.

Carleigh Bailey kept the floor clean while the Lancers built a sizable lead. The teamwork and the lead that the Lancers had would prove too much for the Lions as they fell in the third set 25-15.
In the fourth set, with the match up for grabs for the Lancers the girls went to work. Scoring 11 kills as a team while holding the Lions to a .051 success rate, the Lancers were out to win. With both teams flirting with the match point,
Lexi Pollard and Megan Kalbleisch scored on a block to give the Lancers the set and the game, 25-21.
SUNDAY vs Nipissing
Jade Zeibarth led the Lancers with 8 kills and 11 digs, followed by
Paige Phills with 8 kills and 8 digs. Nipissing was led by Cassie Dobson with 6 kills and 13 digs, while Shayla Kessler had 6 kills and 7 digs.
