Deanna Iwanicka, head coach of the University of Windsor Lancer women's hockey team is pleased to announce her team captains for the 2018-19 season.
Â
Veteran defencemen
Rachel Chantler will once again serve as team captain while fellow veterans
Ashley Maitre and
Molly Jenkins, along with transfer
Alix Reiter will join her as assistant captains.Â
Â
In her second year as captain, Chantler brings a tremendous amount of experience with her and has a care for her teammates that is second to none. She goes out of her way for others and is striving to be a better leader each day.
Â
A native of Maidstone, Maitre has a work ethic that is unmatched by any other player, both on and off the ice. New to the leadership role, she is finding her voice as a leader and makes the team better.
Â
A transfer from Coach Iwanicka's previous team, the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT), Reiter has been the team engine so far this season. The third year forward sets the tone and brings a fresh perspective to the Lancer program.
Â
Third year goaltender Jenkins rounds out the leadership team. She is a quiet style leader, sets an example for great fitness and competes to her fullest capability every times she is on the ice. Overall, Jenkins has a very positive attitude, even she bringing a smile to the locker room while sweating!
Â
"We are building a championship program, and this group is part of that foundation we are currently laying," says Iwanicka. "I am excited to work with this group, to support the team as we learn to be champions. We will do this by being our best: better every single time."
The Lancers open the 2018-19 season on Saturday October 13th against the Toronto Varsity Blues in Toronto. The puck is scheduled to drop at 7:00pm and can be seen live on www.oua.tv.Â
