Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer earns a tie & loss against Mustangs

The Lancers earned a point over the weekend in a home-and-home series against the Western Mustangs. The Lancers walked away with a scoreless draw Friday night at Alumni Field, before falling 2-1 on Sunday at Mustangs Field.

Heading into their final weekend of regular season competition, the Lancers are 5-5-4 in the west division standings and sit in sixth place.

FRIDAY @ Windsor
It was a slow start for both teams to begin the match, as there were a few too many missed opportunities for both teams. The pressure quickly began to amount for both teams late in the half, but an inability to break through the physicality of the defence left both teams scoreless by the end of the first half.

In the second, Windsor struggled to create an scoring opportunities for themselves but were successfully able to hold off the Western attack. The Lancers made several substitutions near the end of the half to try and spark the offense and got in as many shots as possible, but neither teams was able to secure a goal to take the win.

SUNDAY @ Western
Windsor controlled the attack early in the opening half, pressuring the Western defence in their own zone but were unable to earn a shot on goal for the majority of the frame. However, Western would eventually get on the scoreboard with a penalty shot following a Windsor trickery penalty to give the hosts the 1-0 lead heading into halftime.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net for much of the second half as the competitiveness and physicality continued to amount. The match remained intense throughout the second half, with a total of nine yellow cards and one red card handed out on the day.

Western continued to battle until their efforts were finally rewards as a perfect assist from Fischer to Chrysanthou allowed the purple and white to extend their lead with 20 minutes left in the match. Windsor would make one final push late in the half, with Bryce Phillips scoring a penalty shot to cut the deficit to 2-1. But despite the final surge from the Lancers, time would eventually run out as the Mustangs escaped with the 2-1 victory.
