Lancers fall to Mustangs in OUA playoffs

The Lancer men's soccer season came to an end Wednesday night following a heartbreaking 2-1 loss in penalty kicks to the Western Mustangs in the first round of the OUA playoffs.

Windsor pressured the ball into Western's end throughout the opening minutes of the match, but it was the Mustangs who nearly struck first, as they had two shots narrowly miss the net as they game remained scoreless. Western's was able to capitalize on their efforts midway through the half as Jonathon Hodge converted on a scramble in front of the net to give the hosts the 1-0 heading into halftime.

Windsor controlled the attack early in the second half, but Western's defense continued to hold off the Blue & Gold. However, the Lancers earned a penalty shot in extra time to tie the game at 1-1 and force an overtime. Tanner Page scored the goal for Windsor. Both teams would fail to score in the overtime period as fatigue quickly took over, and the Mustangs out-scored the Lancers 4-3 in penalty kicks to secure the win.

Congratulations to the Lancers and to head coach Ryan Mendonca on an great season!
