Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Lancers fall to both Warriors & Gryphons

The Windsor Lancers women's volleyball team hit the road for a pair of games against the Waterloo Warriors and Guelph Gryphons. Despite two hard fought games, the Lancers dropped both contests in three sets each.

SATURDAY vs WATERLOO
The Lancers had a rough first set and things never really rebounded, losing the game in three sets, 15-25, 21-25 and 14-25.

The first set was a tough one for the Blue and Gold. They struggled to string together any sort of offense, committing 12 attack errors in the first set. The Warriors put together a number of good rallies, taking the set 25-15.

The second set got off to a far better start for the girls in blue and gold as they jumped out to their first lead of the match. The Lancers also played a much more disciplined set, recording only four errors on the set. Unfortunately, Waterloo's offense was too much to handle as they took a close one, 25-21.

The third set mostly belonged to the Warriors as their offense continued its blistering pace, jumping out to another early lead in the game. The Lancers couldn't keep the Warriors contained as they trailed the whole set, despite having their best set in terms of kills, the Lancers dropped the third set 25-14 to lose the match 3-0.

Waterloo's Sarah Remedios led all players on defense with 14 digs. Windsor was led by Brooke Davis and Amie Slawson who each had 11.

Waterloo's Sarah Gylnn led all scorers with 13 kills. The Lancers were paced by Paige Phills and Ally Winik who had six kills each.

The Lancers had a tough day on offense, committing 22 errors on the game to Waterloo's 13.

SUNDAY vs GUELPH
The Lancer women's volleyball team took to the court in Guelph looking to split their weekend road trip. The Lancers got out to an early lead but couldn't maintain their success, falling in three sets, 24-26, 20-25, 10-25.

GAME STATS
Guelph's Michaela Hellinga led all players in scoring with 14 kills. The Lancers were paced by Lexi Pollard who had 10 kills for the blue and gold.

Guelph's Alexa Curran was the best teammate on the floor, with 38 assists. Windsor's Brooke Davis led her squad with 29.

GAME FLOW
The first set got off to a good start for the Lancers as Alana Gyemi led the attack, helping the Lancers to an early lead. Windsor continued to build on their lead, going into the technical timeout up 16-12. Unfortunately for the blue and gold, Guelph really got things going behind a big performance from Noa Pijil. Gryphons went on a run and took the set back from the Lancers, winning it 26-24 to go up 1-0 in the match.

In the second set, Guelph continued the run they started in the first. The Gryphons were very efficient scoring 16 kills to just two errors. The Lancers' margin was 12 kills to eight errors, which helped contribute to their 20-25 set loss.

Guelph jumped out to a 9-0 lead to start the third and their relentless efficiency continued throughout the remainder of the set to easily take the game with a 25-10 set win.

UP NEXT
Windsor returns to their home floor to take on the Ryerson Rams next Friday at the St. Denis Centre at 6:00pm.
