Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Mustangs defeat Lancers at WFCU Centre

In a rare and unique opportunity, the Lancer men's basketball team hosted the Western Mustangs at the WFCU Centre. In an effort to take over their rivals in the OUA west standings, the Lancers started slow and despite some bright moments, fell to the Mustangs 74-57.

GAME STATS
Telloy Simon led all scorers on the night with 18 points. The Mustangs were led by Amar Shiddo who scored 17

The Lancers had a bad day for ball security, giving up the rock 17 times to the Mustang's eight.

Damian Pursaud led the game in assists, dishing out eight. The Mustangs were led by Nikola Farkic with five.

Julian Walker recorded a double-double for the Mustangs with 13 points and 13 rebounds.

GAME FLOW
The Lancers started slow getting beat to rebounds and avoidable turnovers. Their defense was key early keeping them in the contest despite a stagnant offense. The Lancers' struggles were compounded by Western's three-point shooting, which got going after an unproductive first quarter. The Lancers made a close run midway through the second quarter, however, the Mustangs again answered with their three point shooting, keeping the blue and gold contained as they went into halftime with a 37-25.

The Lancers didn't have a miraculous fix for their offensive woes but came out of halftime with a little more efficiency. Simon and Lucas Orlita each gave Windsor some perimeter presence and though the Mustangs led, the offensive improvement gave the Lancers a chance at staging a comeback.

Windsor had their best performance in the third quarter, making 40 per cent of their looks while holding the Mustangs to just 29 per cent and gave up zero three pointers.  Unfortunately, the blue and gold couldn't keep it up as Western kept their lead by hitting the shots the shots they hit for the majority of the night, winning the game 74-57.
