GAME FLOW
Â
The first set was tight as the Lancers and Mustangs stayed within a few points of each other. Midway through the set the Lancers were forced into a timeout after losing four straight points. The timeout was useful as the Lancers solved some of their problems and tied the set at 17 just after a Mustangs timeout. Windsor's run continued and they forced the Mustangs into another first set timeout after taking a 20-17 lead. The Lancers kept the momentum up until the end of the set, taking it in exciting fashion 25-20.
Â
To open the second, the Lancers had some effective early offense and paired it with tenacious defense playing the Mustangs close and bursting into the lead midway through the set with a 13-9 lead. The Lancers lead ballooned over a 5-0 run that lasted despite a Western timeout in the middle of it. Over the course of the set the Mustangs struggled to defend a persistent Lancer attack led by
Jade Ziebarth and
Paige Phills. The Mustangs stayed competitive, picking their spots and scoring when they could, however they couldn't stop the Lancers, who took the set 25-18 to go up 2-1.
Â
As the first two sets went, so did the beginning of the third, with very little separation between the two sides. Midway through the set the Lancers again made a run to put some separation between them and the Mustangs, forcing Western into a timeout to address the growing 16-11 Windsor lead. The timeout did little to help as the Lancers took the set in commanding fashion, 25-13 to take the match 3-0.
