GAME FLOW
Things got off to a great start for the Lancers as they earned an ace on the very first serve and began to build an early lead, forcing the Marauders into an early timeout down 7-2. The timeout worked well for the visitors as they came out on a run to bring the game within two points, and then forcing Windsor to take a time out when they tied the game. What ensued was aback and forth affair. Late in the set McMaster gained some breathing room and took the set 25-22 to go up 1-0 in the match.
Â
In the second set, it was the Marauders who came out strong, wasting little time in building a big lead. The Lancers offense struggled as McMaster built up a 13-4 lead over the hosts forcing them to call a timeout. The timeout was exactly what the blue and gold needed as they came back and brought the game within two. After two service aces by
Jade Ziebarth and a great play by
Lexi Pollard, the Lancers tied it up at 16. Over the back end of the set the Lancers used tough defense and great production from the service line to come back and take the set, 25-22 to tie the match at one set each.
Â
The third set was entirely blue and gold in the early going as the Lancers jumped on McMaster and quickly worked out a 10-0 lead. McMaster finally called timeout down 13-1 and came out on a mini run to get the deficit back down to single digits. The blue and gold responded and took the set in dominant fashion, 25-11, taking a 2-1 match lead.
Â
The fourth set started in favour of the Lancers as well, as they built a four point lead to open the set. Down 8-2, the Marauders came out of a time out and battled their way to a three-point game 13-10. Despite McMaster's resilience, the Lancers won the set 28-26, taking the match in four sets.
