Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Men's Hockey breaks for holidays with loss to Western

In their second game of a home-and-home series, the Lancer men's hockey team was looking to rebound after a tough loss to Western on Thursday night in London. Unfortunately for the Blue & Gold, the night was a repeat of Thursday as they fell to the Mustangs 4-1.

The loss was the Lancers sixth in a row and they head into the Christmas break with a 7-9 record and sit seventh overall in the OUA west division.

GAME STATS
Johnathan Reinhart played a solid game, stopping 32 of 35 shots he faced. Western's Luke Peresinni made 27 saves in addition to scoring an empty net goal in the final minute of the game.

The game resembled a rivalry, accumulating 40 minutes in penalties, with each team taking 20 each.

GAME FLOW
The Mustangs got things going early in the first period when Ethan Syzpula beat Reinhart for the first goal of the game to put the Mustangs up 1-0 not even five minutes into the first period. The Lancers answer came about five minutes later when Kyle Hope fired one past Peresinni on a power play chance to knot the game up at one.

In the second period the Mustangs wasted little time in getting on the board again when Anthony Stefano netted a short handed goal not even three minutes into the frame. Two minutes later it was Stefano picking up the assist as Ray Heuther scored to expand the lead for the Mustangs.

In the third period the Lancers stopped the bleeding and held the Mustangs off the board until the last minute of the game when an unusual player netted a goal. Western's goalie Luke Peresini netted an empty net goal in the last minute to ice the game away at 4-1.

UP NEXT
The Lancers break for the holiday and return to action on January 4th when they head to Waterloo to take on the Laurier Golden Hawks at 7:00pm. The game can be seen live at www.oua.tv.
