The Windsor Lancers men's basketball team was back in action on Saturday facing the second place Western Mustangs. The Lancers, coming off a hard fought victory over Laurier, were looking to keep their winning ways alive as every team wants to get hot at the end of the season. The Mustangs, on the other hand were just looking to defend their second place spot in the OUA West. Unfortunately for the Lancers they could not pull through and fell at home to the Western Mustangs, 94-86.
GAME STATS
Mike Rocca led all scorers on the night, pouring in 21 points for the Lancers. The Mustangs were led by Henry Tan and his 19-point performance.
Â
Rocca also led all players in rebounds with nine boards. The Mustangs effort on the glass was spearheaded by Eriq Jenkins and
Marko Kovac who each brought in seven rebounds.
Â
The Mustang defense was the star of the game, holding the Lancers to just 39 per cent from the field. While the Western defense was going its think, the visitors from London were also socring on 50 per cent of their shots from the field.
Â
GAME FLOW
Western was quick out of the gates, jumping on their 401 rivals early in the first quarter and jumping out to an early lead. The Mustangs went to work quick on the defensive end as well, hamstringing the Lancers offense into a measly 36 per cent performance from the field in the first half, while the Mustangs offense was humming along at 57 per cent from the field. The Lancers worked hard to stay within striking distance at the break and did just that, going into the break with a manageable 48-36 halftime deficit.
Â
In the third quarter it was a lot the same as the Mustangs maintained a lead that never shrunk to less than five points. The Mustangs were led by Henry Tan as well as their stingy defensive play as they went into the fourth quarter with a nine-point lead. Despite four Lancers reaching double digits they could not get it done on their home court, falling 94-86.
