In their first weekend at home on Alumni Field, the Lancers walked away with two points following a pair of ties against the Brock Badgers and McMaster Marauders. Windsor tied the Badgers 1-1 Friday night before walking away with a 2-2 deadlock against McMaster on Saturday.
Â
Windsor is still searching for their first win of the year and are 0-2-2 on the season to sit in eighth place in the OUA west division.
Â
FRIDAY vs BROCK
The Lancers got on the board early when
Paiten Stephens came flying down the right side of the field and made a beautiful pass to
Jade Samping who fired the ball past Brock goaltender Marilena Spagnolo.
Â
The Badgers had a number of scoring opportunities in the first, but were unable to convert.
Â
In the second, the Lancers continued to control the play for much of the half. However, a misstep early in second saw the Blue & Gold accidentally put the ball into their own net, tying it at 1-1. They were unable to break away for the remainder of the game and walked away with the tie.
Â
SATURDAY vs McMASTER
Against the first place Marauders, the Lancers
Abby Hunt,
Keely Baggio & Stephens created many scoring chances for the Blue & Gold but were unable to find the back of the net.
Â
Lea Pentney put Windsor up in just the fourth minute of the match with a header that flew into the back of the net. The Marauders would tie the game at one before
Kaylea Cunliffe scored her first goal in a Lancer uniform to put the Blue & Gold up 2-1 heading into halftime.
Â
McMaster applied continuous pressure on Lancer goaltender
Kristina Brooks and with just minutes remaining in the game was able to breach the wall to tie the game at 2-2.
Â
Brooks was very aggressive and solid in net, turning away seven shots on net.
Â
