After coming out with the early lead against the UOIT Ridgebacks, the Lancers women's hockey team once again found themselves in penalty trouble that ultimately cost them the game.
Â
Lancer goaltender,
Jaydlin Spooner, held the Ridgebacks off through three regulation periods and overtime, to decide the game in a shootout. Both goaltenders kept the puck out of the net for six shooters, but it was Chelsea Ball who finally put the game away, winning 5-4 for the Ridgebacks.
Â
GAME STATS
Spooner was the star of the game, stopping 57 of the 61 shots she faced.
Â
Taylor Conte led the Lancer offence, scoring two goals, with
Meredith Goldhawk and Alex Reiter each putting a goal of their on the board. Chelsea Ball was the key component of the Ridgeback offence, dishing the puck out for two assists, and putting the game away for UOIT in the shootout.

GAME FLOW
Despite being vastly out shot in the opening period, the blue and gold power play capitalized on their scoring opportunities, scoring two goals with the man advantage. Scoring another even strength goal, the Lancers ended the first period with a three goal lead.
Â
As has been the case all season, the second period saw the blue and gold spend the majority of the time shorthanded. Giving up four power plays in the second period, Windsor struggled to maintain their momentum from the opening period.
Â
Just as they were about to escape the period with their three goal lead, the Ridgebacks scored two quick goals to make it a one goal game entering the closing frame.
Â
Conte got her second goal of the night to start the third period, giving the Lancers a two goal edge. However, continued penalty problems saw Windsor give up two power play goals to push the game into overtime.
Â
Still scoreless after the five minute extra time, the two teams lined up for a shootout, where the Ridgebacks took the game, when after six shooters, Chelsea Ball found her way around the solid Lancer goaltending.
