Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Women's Hockey shut out by Lakers

In their second matchup of the season against the Nipissing Lakers, the Lancers women's hockey team got off to a slow start, digging themselves an early hole that they were unable to climb out of. Windsor fell to Nipissing 5-0 on Saturday afternoon on the road.

The Lancers found themselves with a man advantage after the Lakers took a hooking penalty on the first play of the game. The Lancers were slow to find their feet, immediately giving up a break away, and allowing the Lakers to find their way on the board in the first minute of the game.

Nipissing followed it up with another goal moments later, as Kaitlyn McManus was left wide open in the slot, and capitalized on the defensive breakdown, scoring their second goal in the first four minutes.

The blue and gold began to find some momentum after a Nipissing cross checking penalty put them on the power play. While unable to capitalize, the opportunity gave the Lancers the spark they needed to produce some offense.

However three goals for the Lakers in the second period widened the deficit to five goals, while the Lancers struggled to put the puck past Nipissing goaltender, Danika Ranger.

The Lancers took a more defensive approach in the third period. Limiting their oppositions scoring opportunities, they held the Lakers scoreless in the third period, losing the game 5-0.
