Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Men's Hockey falls to Ryerson

The Lancer men's hockey team fell 5-1 to the Ryerson Rams on Saturday night at the Capri Pizzeria Recreation Complex.

After a 10-6 game in their first match of the season earlier in the year, the fans in attendance at the CPRC were expecting a heavily offensive game.

The opening period seemed to be an even matchup, until two late period goals, including a goal on the penalty kill, opened the door for the Rams to take control of the game.

Falling into penalty issues in the following periods, the blue and gold struggled to create any momentum going the other way.

Scoring on one of the numerous power plays to open the second period, the Rams took to a three goal lead.

John Wesley stopped the bleeding for the Lancers, finding the back of the net in the closing minutes of the second period.

Now only a two goal game with the entire third period to go, the Lancers appeared to be back in the game. However, Devon Paliani sealed the game for the Rams with his second shorthanded goal of the night, five minutes into the period.

In their frustration, the blue and gold were drawn into taking numerous penalties, and let the Rams take complete control of the remainder of the period.

Paliani scored the empty net goal with two minutes left in the game, completing his hat trick, and all but ending the game.

In the closing seconds, Lancer Jack Van Boekel was ejected from the game with a 10-minute misconduct, after spearing a Ryerson player.

The Rams took the game at the final buzzer, 5-1 over the Lancers.
