Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Lancers come from behind to defeat Thunderwolves

The Windsor Lancers started slow but finished strong as they came from behind to pick up a 5-3 road win at Lakehead Friday night. The blue and gold were down early after giving up the game's first two goals but outscored the Thunderwolves 5-1 over the rest of the game including the last four. The win moves the Lancers to 3-1 in OUA play.

GAME STATS
Jonathan Reinhart made 41 saves in net for the Lancers on 44 shots, earning the win. Nic Reynard made 33 saves on 38 shots for the host Thunderwolves.

The Lancer penalty kill was perfect, forcing the Thunderwolves to 0-for-4 on the powerplay. The Lancers converted one of their five powerplays opportunities.

Despite scoring the game's last four goals, the Lancers were out shot over the final two periods 28-22.

GAME FLOW
The Lancers may have been given a powerplay early but it was the Thunderwolves that scored first when Josh Laframboise got the shorthanded marker not even two minutes into the game. Just three minutes later it was Greg Smith getting the better of Reinhart and putting Lakehead up 2-0. The Lancers bounced back late in the frame when Alex Friesen put the Lancers on the board, making it a one goal game into intermission, 2-1.

The second belonged to the goal tenders as both managed to keep the opposing team at bay for much of the period. It wasn't until eleven minutes in when Thomas Soustal restored the two goal lead for Lakehead. Not to be outdone, two minutes later Ryan Barbosa beat Reynard to make it a one goal game as both teams went back to the locker rooms with Lakehead once again up by one, 3-2.

Windsor's comeback began in the third period when Connor Matton beat Reynard not even two minutes into the frame tying the game at 3-3. After assisting on Matton's goal, Anthony Salinitri got in on the scoring himself, giving the Lancers a 4-3 lead on a powerplay goal with 6:02 left in the third. Brennen Feasey scored a late goal to seal it as the Lancers put on a gutty performance, digging deep and winning off of four unanswered goals, 5-3.
