Men's Hockey sweeps series in Thunder Bay

The Windsor Lancers picked up another win in Thunder Bay Saturday evening, surviving a late surge to win 3-2 in overtime against the Lakehead Thunderwolves.

The Lancers scored the game's first two before Thomas Soustal tied it up for the Thunderwolves late in the third. The Lancers made quick work of the overtime though and improved their OUA record to 4-1-0.

Jonathan Reinhart continued his impressive season, stopping 39 of 41 shots he faced. Lakehead's Nic Reynard made 17 saves on 19 shots before being replaced by Brock Aiken who made 15 saves on 16 shots.

The game had the sense of a rivalry matchup with both teams combining for 32 penalty minutes.

Ethan Skinner and Thomas Soustal were tied for the lead in points. Skinner with one goal and one assist, while Soustal had two goals.

GAME FLOW
The first period was a tight on between the Thunderwolves and Lancers. It was about as close as two teams could get, with Lakehead just edging the Lancers in shots 11-8.  At the end of one period, the score was as close as the game with both teams still vying for the game's first goal, going into the break tied 0-0.

The Thunderwolves killed the penalty to open the second and the stalemate persisted between the two teams. Still tied in shots it was the Lancers on the board first, with 13:58 left in the second. Kody Gagnon got the blue and gold on the board and the lead 1-0. Just two minutes later, it was Ethan Skinner getting in on the fun, beating Nic Reynard to make it 2-0 and forcing the Thunderwolves to make a change in net.

After six unanswered goals dating back to Friday, Thomas Soustal finally ended the Lancers run as he trimmed to the two-goal lead in half, putting Windsor on notice. Soustal then beat Reinhart again on a nice pass from Daniel Del Paggio, tying the game at 2-2. The Thunderwolves kept the pressure up but couldn't get the game winner, sending the game into overtime.

The extra period didn't last long however, as just 90 seconds in Trent Fox put home a shot in front of a crowded net to get the game winner and send the Lancers home with two wins in row. The Lancers scored on the first shot of the overtime frame to win 3-2.
