Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Windsor comes from behind to defeat Lions in OT

The Windsor Lancers won a thriller Friday night, coming from behind in the third period for a quick but exciting 3-2 overtime victory over the York Lions.

The win moves the blue and gold to 5-1 on the season, as they prepare to host the Ryerson Rams on Saturday.

GAME STATS
Jonathan Reinhart earned the win in net making 23 saves, while York's Cole Ceci had a great day making 45 saves on 48 shots.

Ethan Skinner led the game with two points on one goal and one assist, including the game winning goal in overtime.

The Lancers outshot the Lions in each period, almost doubling the Lions shot total, 48-25.

GAME FLOW
The first period between the Lancers and Lions was a close one. Neither team found much separation as both goaltenders cleaned up whatever got through. Both squads killed off early penalties and the scoreboard remained empty. After killing off one penalty, the Lancers couldn't kill a second and in the last minute of the period, the Lions put one past Reinhart to go up 1-0 heading into the intermission.

The second period was a goaltending clinic put on by York's Ceci. The Lancers bettered than doubled the Lions shots and weren't taking more penalties than the visitors, yet the blue and gold couldn't seem to score. Ceci's performance paid off again late in the period when Windsor took a late penalty and Braydon Buziak made Windsor pay by doubling the Lions lead 2-0 heading into the third period.

The Lancers final solved the Cole Ceci problem with 14:20 left in the third when Ian Parker finally beat the Lions goalie to make it a one goal game with plenty of hockey left. The Lions kept the pressure on but the blue and gold remained composed and in the game. Late in the period the composure paid off as Ryan Barbosa evened up the score with under three minutes to go.

Heading into overtime it was the Lancers with all the momentum and it showed as Anthony Salinitri made a great play to Ethan Skinner who beat Ceci just 16 seconds into extra time for the Lancers third unanswered goal, stealing the win for the Lancers 3-2 in overtime.
