The Windsor Lancers women's soccer team was defeated Sunday afternoon in their season finale, 5-1 at York.
The Lancers had their work cut out for them as the Lions entered the day's tilt with 12 straight wins and ranked No. 10 in Canada.
GAME FLOW
The Lions got things going quickly when Kiyani Johnson beat
McKenna Sajkowski to give the hosts an early 1-0 lead. Unfortunately for the Lancers that wouldn't be the last goal they allowed in the half, as the Lions scored two more goals on five shots from Kalifornia Mitchell and Johnson again. York went into the half up 3-0.
To open the second half, Johnson scored again to complete her hattrick. Immediately after that the Lancers finally had their answer when
Jessica Paglia beat Danitza Indacochea in the 52nd minute to draw the Lancers within three. Sadly, it would prove too little too late the Lions scored one more time in the 88th minute to take the game 5-1.
The Windsor Lancers women's soccer team would like to thank fans, parents, friends, alumni and all supporters of Lancers soccer for their support throughout the 2019 season, we look forward to being back on the pitch in 2020.
