GAME FLOW
The Ridgebacks were aggressive early, forcing their way inside and putting the Lancers in a little bit of foul trouble, forcing the blue and gold to go to their bench midway through the first quarter, tied at 6-6. Â Coming off the bench in the first, Gutt sparked the Lancers with four straight makes, two from deep and some tenacity on the boards. The Ridgebacks hung around in the first quarter, but it was the Lancers up big, 21-11 after one.
Â
The Windsor offense kept the pressure on in the second quarter with a steady helping of Gutt's consistent shooting, as well as some timely contributions from her teammates. The Lancers inched ahead of the Ridgebacks, building a significant 40-23 lead at halftime.
Â
The third quarter was the Lancers' best, as the blue and gold held Ontario Tech to just 30.8 per cent shooting in the quarter, meanwhile, the Lancers connected on 50 per cent of their looks from deep in the frame, led by first year guard
Harriet Carey who went on a tear late in the quarter. The dominant performance carried into the fourth as the blue and gold improved to 6-1 on the season.
Â
QUOTE FROM THE COACH
"We were down two starters, that's never easy," said coach Chantal Vallée after the game. "So it's a good time for everybody to step up and that was the message, everybody had to step up today and tomorrow. We accomplished some goals today, but we won't be completely satisfied until we're finished the weekend."
