Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Windsor sweeps weekend series against Mustangs

The Windsor Lancers picked up a second impressive win in as many days over the Western Mustangs Saturday afternoon, besting the Mustangs 5-2 in London.

The Lancers controlled the game for the most part and finished strong with two third period goals on the way to their 13th win of the season. The win puts the Lancers out ahead of the rest of the west division with 25 points.

GAME STATS
Jake Reinhart was fantastic in net, stopping 33 of the 35 shots he faced. Western's Luke Peresinni stopped 34 of the 38 shots he faced on the day.

Ethan Skinner led the game in points with three on one goal and two assists.

All in all, the Lancers went a productive three for eight on the powerplay, even netting a shorthanded goal for good measure.

GAME FLOW
The first period was tough for the goaltenders, with shots few and far between in the opening frame, not allowing either to get into a rhythm. With the defensive stalemate persisting past the halfway point of the period, the Mustangs took a penalty and the Lancers capitalized on the ensuing powerplay. Kody Gagnon potted his third goal in two days as the Lancers opened a lead on their rivals. Gagnon's goal was the difference after one, 1-0 Lancers.

In a game full of penalties, the Lancers picked a good day for the powerplay to show up. Eleven minutes into the second period, Ethan Skinner beat Peresinni to double the Windsor lead halfway through the second period. The Lancers powerplay struck a third time with 4:56 left in the frame when Brennan Feasey scored putting the blue and gold up 3-1. Western's answer however, was fast and furious as Ethan Szypula and Franco Sproviero beat Reinhart on their own powerplays to make the score 3-2 for the good guys heading into the final frame.

In the third, it was the Lancer penalty kill that got in on the scoring after seeing the powerplay have all the fun. Anthony Salinitri took a nice pass from Trent Fox to extend the Lancer lead with their fourth special teams' goal of the game. Brad Pataki put the game away a little later with an empty netter as the Lancers swept the home-and-home with a 5-2 win.
