The Lancer women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (10-25, 12-25, 20-25) decision to the host Guelph Gryphons on Sunday afternoon to close out the first half of their season.
Â
Inclement weather delayed the Lancers arrival in the Guelph and pushed the match start time back thirty minutes. The loss broke the Lancers two game win-streak and moved them to 3-5 on the season, while the Gryphons improved to 4-5.

GAME FLOW
The first set was all Gryphons as they came out with strong play giving themselves a huge point advantage early on. They would ride the wave into the technical timeout up 16-5 in large part to Ziebarth's strong performance against her former team. Big blocks at the net also contributed largely to the Gryphons success as well as tough serves from the service line which generated major momentum for the home squad who closed out the first set 25-10.Â
Â
In the second set, the Gryphons continued to pour the pressure on the Lancers. Another strong start gave them the opportunity to roll through the early stages of the set firmly holding a 16-7 lead at the technical timeout. The blue and gold found a way to earn two more points than the first set but ultimately fell 25-12 to the Gryphons.Â
Â
For the third set, the momentum was split between both sides early on allowing both teams to remain competitive. Towards the midway point the Gryphons would continue to apply pressure on Windsor and were looking to wrap things up at home in straight sets. The Gryphons held the lead heading into the technical timeout up 16-8. The notoriously resilient Lancer ladies did not want to go away easily as they put up a good fight to get some momentum onto their side of the court. The blue and gold would manage to come within 2 points of knotting things up but ultimately, they would only earn 20 points in the set as Guelph finished off the afternoon with a 25-20 third set win and 3-0 victory in the match to close out the final fall OUA volleyball game of 2019.Â
