The Lancer men's hockey team had their 2018-19 season come to an end with a 4-0 loss to the Guelph Gryphons on Saturday night at the Capri Pizzeria Recreation Complex.
Â
With the win, the Gryphons win the best-of-three series 2-0 and eliminate the Lancers from the post season.
Â
GAME STATS
Guelph's Andrew Masters made 15 saves to earn the shutout, while Windsor's Johnathan Reinhart made 21 saves on 25 shots.
Â
Both teams had no success on the powerplay with both teams going 0 for 5 with the man advantage.
Â
GAME FLOW
The Gryphons beat Reinhart just 21 seconds into the game to go up 1-0 and take the home crowd out of it with a goal from Todd Winder, his fourth of the post season. Ryan Valentini put Guelph up 2-0 midway through the period, and held the two goal advantage heading into first intermission.
Â
In the second the Lancers looked as though they may get a break as they headed to the powerplay. However, a Lancer turnover resulted in a Guelph breakaway and a short-handed goal by Andres Kopstals to put the Gryphons up 3-0. Despite the Lancers playing on a five minute powerplay later in the period, they couldn't answer, going into the final intermission down 3-0.
Â
In the third the Gryphons solidified the series victory, netting their fourth goal of the game and putting the game out of reach for the Lancers. The third period was the Lancers' best in terms of shot production but they just couldn't figure out Masters, falling 4-0.
