Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Windsor captures OUA Bronze Medal

The Windsor Lancers defeated the Toronto Varsity Blues on Sunday afternoon 3-1 (22-25, 25-22, 25-22, 25-19) to capture the program's second OUA bronze medal in as many years.

GAME STATS
The Lancers were led by Brad Gyemi with 16 kills, while Toronto's Evan Falardeau led the game with 19 kills on the day.

Starting in place of an injured Pierce Johnson, Sean Spencer had a great day posting 11 kills and an efficient .579 kill percentage.

The Lancers were a wall at the net, edging the Blues 7-0 in solo blocks.

GAME FLOW
The Lancers scored the first point of the match, however, it was the Varsity Blues that took and maintained the lead early. Toronto went up 13-8 before the Lancers used some great rallies and good production from the service line to get back in the game. After the Lancers tied it up at 15, Roland Bouchard scored for the blue and gold going into the technical, 16-15. The break was clearly more advantageous to the Blues, who retook the lead shortly after and held on to win the first set 25-22.

Windsor had a better start to the second, but Toronto stayed right on their heels to keep the game interesting. The Lancers did some great work at the net and were rewarded with a two-point lead at the technical. Again, the Blues came out firing and despite some service errors throughout the Lancers were able to hold on to win the set when Toronto couldn't quite handle Bouchard's match winning kill.

The blue and gold controlled the early going of the third set as well, jumping out to a 10-6 lead. The Lancers kept the pressure up and went into the technical with the biggest lead of the match, 16-12. Again, though the Blues came out of the timeout with adjustments and ferocity, storming back to make it a two-point game, 22-20. Despite the comeback, the Lancers stayed calm, executed and took the swing set 25-22 to go up 2-1 for the match.

The Lancers came out strong for the third set in a row. Windsor showed a ton of effort throughout the game but none more than when 5'9 setter Nolan Langley climbed the ladder for a solo block, one of the key plays pushing the Lancers to a 16-13 lead at the technical.  The Lancers kept their foot on the gas preventing the Varsity Blues from making a run as they had done in the previous sets. With match point on the line it was only right that John Moate was the one to hammer the final nail in the coffin, winning the set 25-19 and match 3-1 to capture their second straight OUA Bronze medal.

The Lancers would like thank fans, supporters, friends and family of the program for a great season of support. We look forward to getting back on the court next year.
