The Windsor Lancers lost their first road test of the season, 54-26, to the Toronto Varsity Blues on Sunday night in Toronto.
Â
The game was tightly contested through the first two quarters but the Blues' halftime adjustments proved too much as they ran away with the game. With the loss, the Lancers move to 1-1 on the year.

GAME STATS
Lancer quarterback
Sam Girard went 22 of 35 for 350 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Toronto's Clay Sequeira led the way going 16 of 27 for 455 yards and six touchdowns.
Â
First year kicker
Griffin Fenton had a perfect game, going 4-4 with a long of 39 and made both his PAT attempts. Ethan Shafer went 1-1 from 28 yards and 7-7 on PATs for Toronto.
Â
Carson Ouellette was fantastic in the return game again, racking up 98 yards on just two punt returns. Daniel Diodati returned one punt for the Blues and gained 14 yards.

GAME FLOW
The Varsity Blues made their way down field efficiently on their first drive but had to settle for a field goal shortly after entering scoring range. Toronto scored again when they forced the Lancers to concede a safety, putting the Blues up 5-0 early in the first quarter. The Lancers got on the board late in the frame when Fenton hit his first field goal of the game, cutting the deficit to 5-3 after one quarter.
Â
To open the second quarter on defense, Dan Metcalfe recovered a fumble that led to Fenton's second goal of the night putting the Lancers in the lead. The end of the quarter was a flurry of touchdowns; Toronto answered the field goal with a touchdown pass to Will Corby, on the ensuing kickoff
Carson Ouellette almost took one all the way back, but got the touchdown anyways, catching a short strike from
Sam Girard to put the visitors ahead 13-12. The blue and gold lead was short-lived though, as the Varsity Blues answered with another touchdown pass from Clay Sequeira, putting his Blues up 19-13 at halftime.
Â
The third quarter was a defensive affair as both teams struggled to put points on the board. The Lancers kicked a field goal with 2:44 left in the quarter. On the next drive Sequeira found Nolan Lovegrove on a 79 yard touchdown strike to open the fourth. Windsor answered with a touchdown pass from Girard to
Kaeden Walls.
Â
Unfortunately the Blues offense continued to give the Lancers defense fits and they scored another touchdown to make it a 10 point game. Fenton hit a 39 yard field goal but it wasn't enough as the defense had no answers for Clay Sequeira and company, dropping their first road game 54-26.
