Â
The Windsor Lancers played two strong games over the weekend defeating the Waterloo Warriors and Brock Badgers both 3-2. Â
Â
The win moves the Lancers to 4-2-2 on the season and into a tie for second place in the OUA west division standings.
Â
SATURDAY
The Lancers got things going in a hurry with a quick strike from
Tanner Page to put the Lancers up 1-0 in the opening minutes of the match. The Lancers kept the pressure on the Warriors throughout the half playing a majority of the game in the visitor end. Warrior keeper Jackson Vinci played well to keep Windsor off the board the rest of the half, making a marvelous stop on a free kick that looked like a beautiful top shelf goal, only to be deflected high by outstretched hands of Vinci. All in all the Warriors had to feel good only being down 1-0 at halftime with plenty of time to turn things around.
Â
The second half opened in defensive fashion, however, the Lancers were still tilting the field and applying plenty of pressure to the Waterloo side. In the 60th minute the pressure paid off when
Alex Amoroso beat Jackson to double the Lancers lead. Shortly after though, Waterloo's Sebastian Guerrieri beat Sebastian Lee-Diagle on a penalty kick to make it a one score game. In the 82nd minute, Guerrieri netted his second goal of the game. Later, in the 86th minute, Skyler Gray rushed the Waterloo net and drew a penalty kick.
Bryce Phillips converted the penalty to make it 3-2 with just minutes remaining to win the game.
Â
SUNDAY
Paul Di Meo got things going right off the hop Sunday, beating Brock Keeper Alexander May in just the second minute to put the home side up 1-0. The Lancers played most of the first half on the attack, playing a great game of ball control. In the 11th minute Phillips converted his second penalty kick of the weekend to double the Lancers lead to 2-0. The Badgers bounced back in spectacular fashion however, when Jared Agyemang scored immediately after the goal to cut the lead back to one. In the 33rd minute Agyemang beat  Lee-Diagle to tie the game. Despite once holding a 2-0 lead the Lancers went into the half with a tie game on their hands.
Â
The Badgers and Lancers fought hard in the second half. Not only were they tied on the pitch, but in the standings they sit back to back, and breaking the tie would have big standings implications. Thankfully for Windsor in the 77th minute
Skyler Grey got a shot off that beat May to put the blue and gold up 3-2.
