The Windsor Lancers women's hockey team had a valiant showing at home Friday night against the No. 4 University of Toronto Varsity Blues, but came up short in a 1-0 final.
Â
Despite the sub. 500 Lancers facing the fourth best squad in the country, Windsor matched them stride for stride and showed a ton of pride in a hard fought hockey game. The loss drops the Lancers to just 2-14 on the season.

GAME FLOW
The blue and gold played some stout defence to open the game. The Lancers held the Blues to just eight shots on goal in the first period, and
Molly Jenkins was up to the task on each one. The Lancers managed to push the puck into the zone, putting five shots on Toronto's Erica Fryer, though she was game to them too. After twenty minutes, the Lancers and Blues were deadlocked at 0-0.
Â
The Lancers played great defence to open the second as well, limiting the opportunities for the Varsity Blues. The Lancers looked to be in trouble when they took two penalties in the span of three minutes, but the blue and gold killed both. Unfortunately, despite Windsor allowing just eight shots, Toronto's Lauren MacDonnell snuck one past Jenkins, putting her Blues on top 1-0 with five minutes to go in the frame. The Lancers matched the Blues in shots, 8-8 but couldn't beat Fryer, settling for a 1-0 deficit after two periods.
Â
In the third the Blues controlled the puck much more and produced more scoring chances than either period before. Jenkins however, wouldn't be beat again, keeping it a 1-0 game for her skaters. The Varsity Blues however, had different plans, keeping the Lancers at bay and sneaking out of Windsor with a 1-0 win in tow.
