Windsor falls to Gryphons

The Lancer women's hockey team dropped a 4-1 decision to the Guelph Gryphons on Saturday night on the road.

The Lancer scored first and held a lead for a time but couldn't overcome an offensive surge from the Gryphons over the final two periods. The loss drops the blue and gold to 2-15 on the season.

GAME STATS
Molly Jenkins made an impressive 34 save performance on 37 shots, while Guelph's Aurore Beaulieu stopped 25 of 26 shots.

The Lancers penalty kill unit was fantastic, keeping the Gryphons to 0/5 on the night.

GAME FLOW
The Lancers played well in the first period, getting plenty of pucks on net early and often. Windsor was awarded with a couple of powerplay opportunities but failed to convert on both. The Lancers' pressure finally paid off at the 13:23 mark when Amy Maitre scored her second goal of the season, putting the Lancers ahead. After 20 minutes the Lancers were out shooting the Gryphons and had a 1-0 lead to show for it.

The second period got off to a much better start for the Gryphons when Gabrielle Smyth tied the game just 3:03 into the period. Kristen Jay put the Gryphons in front of the Lancers just over three later and held a 2-1 lead heading into the final intermission.

In the third period, the Gryphons scored two more times as the Lancers went on to lose 4-1.
