Lancers drop heart breaker to Guelph

The Windsor Lancers dropped a heartbreaking 94-93 loss to the Guelph Gryphons on the road Saturday afternoon.
 
The loss moves the blue and gold back to .500 on the season as they sit in second place in the west division standings.
 
GAME STATS
Jordan Fullerton led all scorers with 23 points on 82 per cent shooting. The Gryphons were led by Keenan Dowell who scored 21 points on 44 per cent from the field.
 
Thomas Kennedy led the effort on the glass, pulling down an incredible 19 boards. Aaron Nugent was Guelph's leading rebounder with nine.
 
Both Shakael Pryce and Kennedy double-doubled. Pryce with a game leading 10 assists and 20 points, while Kennedy added 11 points to his 19 boards.
 
GAME FLOW
The first quarter got off to a rough start for the blue and gold, who opened the game on the wrong side of a 9-2 run. The Lancers reacted quick though when Telloy Simon banked home a covered three pointer and sparked a run the put the Lancers in the lead halfway through the quarter. The blue and gold offence stayed hot, leading the Gryphons 26-20 after 10 minutes. Windsor almost pushed their lead to double digits with Chris Poloniato and Fullerton pacing the offence. The Lancers were very efficient in the half with 12 assists on 17 makes and 54.8 per cent from the field. They held a 47-41 lead at halftime.
 
The third quarter was a forgettable one for the blue and gold, who were outscored 30-11 in the frame. The Lancer offence struggled to maintain their efficiency from the first half, while the Gryphons began to get hot from the perimeter. The hosts hit eight triples in the third quarter, propelling the Gryphons to a 71-58 lead after the third. The Lancers cut the deficit to as little as five in the opening minutes of the fourth and battled all the way through, but came up just short, 94-93.
