Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

No.9 Lancers upset No. 5 visiting Ravens

The No. 9 Windsor Lancers fought their way back into the win column Saturday night with a thrilling 71-67 win over the No. 5 Carleton Ravens at the St. Denis Centre.

The Lancers got production from the entire lineup with nine players scoring at least once. The win puts the Lancers back in the win column and solidifies their place at second in the OUA West at 14-4.

GAME STATS
Erin Kenny led the way for the Lancers with 12 points on 60 per cent from the field and 75 per cent from behind the three point line. Carleton's Madison Reid led the game in scoring with 20 points on 57 per cent shooting and 67 per cent from deep.

Kayah Clarke led the game in boards with 13. The Ravens were led by Alyssa Cerino who collected eight. Clarke double doubled as well, pairing her 13 boards with 11 points.

GAME FLOW
Windsor got out to a rough start, committing offensive fouls on their first three trips down the court. Kaylee Anagnostopoulos got things going with an and-one and sparked a Lancers run led by Clarke, opening a slim lead over the Ravens. The blue and gold however went ice cold down the stretch and a buzzer beating three by the Ravens put them up 16-14 after one.

The second quarter was a back and forth affair with the Lancers and Ravens essentially matching each other shot for shot.  Towards the end of the quarter though the hosts got back to back buckets, first a contested three from Eve Uwayesu and then a buzzer beater by Arianna Milani to put the Lancers up 35-30 heading into the half.

The third quarter was an offensive spectacle with seven combined triples made and 38 total points in the quarter. Though the Ravens still had the better percentages through the frame, the Lancers got a ton of timely shooting to stay out ahead of the Ravens. After three it was nowhere near over, 53-50 for the Lancers.

Just as the rest of the game the fourth was a hotly contested quarter however the blue and gold were up to the task. Harriet Carey and Erin Kenny hit dagger threes to lift the Lancers over the Ravens 71-67 in a thriller.

QUOTE FROM THE COACH
"Very happy about Erin," exclaimed head coach Chantal Vallée post game. "We know she can shoot the three, she does it in practice all the time, it was a matter of applying it to the game. Hopefully this is a corner that she's turned, and she'll take this and run with it the rest of the season."
