Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Lancers halt Excalibur in road victory; win 5th straight

The Windsor Lancers took care of business on Saturday night from Peterborough defeating the Trent Excalibur 3-0 (25-11, 25-16, 25-17) at the Trent Athletics Centre.

The Lancers managed to maintain strong consistent play which at times required them to come back from slight deficits held by the Excalibur but in the end the strong comeback efforts resulted in the blue and gold being victorious for their first game of a two-game road trip. The win also extends the Lancers winning streak to five consecutive games, their longest win streak in over a decade.

GAME STATS
The blue and gold were led offensively by Lexi Pollard who had herself a night posting 15 kills and earning 5 service aces on the night. Hannah Camrass also had herself an impressive game putting up 8 kills on the stats sheet on her own which led to her team finding offensive success throughout the night.

Brooke Davis and Nicole Woelk split the setting duties in the match earning a combined total of 33 assists with Davis dishing out 20 and Woelk 13 respectively. Defensively the best digger was none other than veteran libero Amie Slawson who recorded 14 digs on the night.

The Excalibur were led offensively by Genna Saunders who had 9 kills for her team in the losing cause.

GAME FLOW
In the first set, the Lancers established their presence early in the visiting gym by taking complete control of the first set. Strong consistent play by the blue and gold allowed them to open a wide point spread margin to ultimately take the first set by a score of 25-11.

In the second set, the Trent Excalibur started off with control bouncing back from a somewhat disappointing first set. They challenged the Lancers early but knowing a resilient Lancer lady squad the blue and gold managed to steal the momentum away from Trent and close out the set with 25-16 comeback set win to go up 2-0 in the match.

In the third set, similarly to the second set, the Excalibur continued to play pesky to the Lancers chances of taking the match in three sets battling hard on their home court. In the end though the Lancers would emerge victorious with a strong serving run by Pollard who helped propel the Lancers to victory and winning the third set 25-17 and the match 3-0.
