GAME FLOW
Things got off to a tight start in the first set, as the Badgers matched the blue and gold in effort and intensity. Through the first half of the set, there was no separation between the two sides as they approached the technical, but an error on Brock's serve gave the Lancers the 16-15 advantage. The blue and gold controlled the pace coming out of the timeout and aided by some stellar blocking, the Lancers built a 21-17 lead, forcing Brock into a timeout. The blue and gold closed out the set on a 4-1 run, with the visitors committing an error to end the set, 25-18 in favour of the Lancers.
Â
Windsor got out to a hot start in set two, taking the lead early behind some great net play and solid service.
Dami Alalade launched an ace to put the Lancers up 9-4 and force the Badgers into a timeout. Though the timeout sparked some Badger scoring, it did little to close the gap as the Lancers led 16-10 at the second technical. Coming out of the tech, Gyemi was brilliant from the service line, notching back-to-back aces and padding an already significant lead approaching set point. Despite losing service late, the Lancers held on, besting the Badgers 25-15.
Â
The Lancers came out swinging in the third, but the Badgers kept pace early. Despite a couple chances where the blue and gold could've begun to gain some separation, Brock hung tough and took an 11-10 lead. The lead was short-lived, though, as the Lancers wrestled back the advantage, leading 16-14 at the technical. Separation was still tough to come by as the Badgers fought back and tied the game at 21. With the game still tied two points later, Lancer head coach
James Gravelle called a timeout to prepare for a final push. The strategy worked and the Lancers pulled ahead to take the set 25-23 and sweep the Badgers.
