Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Lancers dominate Lions; win 102-73

The Windsor Lancers got back in the win column Friday night with a monstrous 102-73 win over the York Lions at the St. Denis Centre.

The Lancers offence started the game hot and never looked back. The Lions hung around early but the Lancers proved to be too much for the visitors who were down big by the second quarter. The resounding win builds some momentum for the Lancers as playoffs draw near and they sit in third place in the west division.

GAME STATS
Jordan Fullerton led the game in scoring with 25 points on 69 per cent shooting. The Lions were led by Alex Thielen who dropped 18 on 64 per cent from the field.

Shakael Pryce led the game in assists with seven on the night and not committing a single turnover. The Lions best ball sharer was Tyler Prynce with four assists and zero turnovers.

Jake Polski double-doubled for the Lancers dropping 13 points and grabbing a game leading 11 boards. York's Tyler Prynce led the rebound effort for York with seven.

GAME FLOW
The Lancers started the game on a tear from beyond the arc as Chris Poloniato couldn't miss early nailing his first two three pointers and going 4-for-9 from deep. Unfortunately for the Lancers, the Lions started just as hot, keeping things close early in the game. As the first quarter wore on though, the Lancers tightened their defence and began building their lead, up 29-13 after the first quarter.

The second quarter just as good for the Lancers, who were shooting an impressive 43 per cent from deep and 52 per cent overall.  Fullerton dropped 19 in the first half complimenting Poloniato's 16 points with the Lancers up large, 62-37 over the Lions at halftime.

Windsor remained dominant in the third quarter, at one point pushing their lead to 40 at 79-39. However, as the home crowd let them hear it, the Lions responded well, finishing the quarter on a 11-3 run make it a 82-50 heading into the final quarter. With the game all but decided heading into the fourth, all that was left to do was to put the finishing touches on a resounding win. The Lancers did just that, staying well ahead of the Lions for a well-deserved, confidence building 102-73 win.

QUOTE FROM THE COACH
"Our ability to share the ball," said head coach Chris Cheng when asked what stood out most. "When you have 24 assists on 37 made shots, it shows you're sharing the ball, it impressed me. It's exactly what we need to do and that was our game plan."
