The Windsor Lancers men's volleyball team defeated their rivals from up the 401 on Saturday afternoon in front of a raucous Lancer nation home crowd on the annual Breast Cancer Awareness Day game at the Dennis Fairall Fieldhouse.

The Lancers downed the visiting Western Mustangs with an impressive 3-1 (18-25, 25-21, 25-21, & 25-19) victory over the purple and white.

The Lancers now improve to 8-6 on the season while the Mustangs now fall to 6-8 on the year. The win also helps boost the Lancers playoff seeding chances as they continue to secure a comfortable playoff position with roughly two weeks left to go in the OUA regular season. The Lancers currently sit in third place in the OUA West division while the Mustangs are sitting in fourth place tied for the last playoff spot at the moment.Â

GAME STATS
Sean Spencer, led the way for the Lancers with 14 kills on the afternoon.
Pierce Johnson added 13 kills of his own on the afternoon to extend his hot playing streak as of late.
Dami Alalade played another fantastic game chipping in with 8 kills, 2 service aces, and was also a big presence at the net having earned 1 solo block and 7 block assists which was the most out of all the players on the floor in the match. Meanwhile
Nolan Langley had 36 assists in the win and also led the way in digs with 12 on the day.Â

Western was led by Brady Fidler who had 12 kills on the afternoon for the Mustangs.Â

GAME FLOW
In the first set, the Western Mustangs came ready to play in a hostile Windsor environment which tried to throw them off of their game early. However, the Mustangs remained unfazed and did not allow the raucous crowd of Windsor Nation dictate the way they played at the Dennis Fairall Fieldhouse. The Mustangs held a slim lead throughout the set holding a narrow four-point margin up until the technical timeout in which afterwards the Mustangs managed to run away with the set late and take the first set by a score of 25-18 and go up 1-0 in the match on the hometown Lancers.Â

In the second set, the script flipped as the blue and gold managed to hold control throughout sustaining a slim four-point margin lead on the Mustangs throughout the majority of the set. The Lancers did a great job of riding the wave and finishing off the Mustangs late in the set after getting to 20 points first and continued to ride it out earning a 25-21 victory over Western to tie things up at 1-1 in the match.

In the third set, the Lancers jumped out to a six-point lead early in the set before the Mustangs decided to start nipping away at the Windsor lead. They managed to get within two points right before the technical timeout however the blue and gold would not lose their composure and hold on to earn a 25-21 win in the third set and go up 2-1 in the match.

In the fourth set, it was Western who held the momentum early on looking to force a fifth and final deciding set. However, ultimately it was the Lancers day to shine as they managed to overcome the deficit prior to the technical timeout and did not look back after the technical timeout eventually going on to win by a score of 25-19 and secure the match victory with a 3-1 home win over their arch division rivals from London.Â

Both teams will have the rest of the weekend off to prepare for their next meeting on Friday February 14th which will feature a Valentine's Day game at Western in London as part of this home-and-home series.
