Lancers honour seniors, fall to Mustangs

The Lancer women's soccer team lost 2-1 to the Western Mustangs on Sunday evening at Alumni Field.

STATS:

Windsor made 6 shots on goal and Lauren Gellner made a total of 4 saves.

Game Recap:

In the Lancers last game of the regular season, the blue and gold squad was looking to end on a high note. In the first half of the game, there was an even push by both teams to move the ball. Emma Beaulieu made a good opportunity for Windsor with a kick to the middle in Mustang territory but unfortunately no one was there to make the play. Western was able to make it past Lauren Gellner twice by midfielder Natalie Abbate and led a 2-0 lead into halftime.

The second half of the game, the Lancers were looking to close the gap and gain possession over the Mustangs. There was a close opportunity for Windsor by Brooke Macleod when the ball missed to go to the outside, left side of the net. With 10 mins left in regulation the squad was able to close the gap as Emma Beaulieu sprinted to the ball to get a shot into the back left corner assisted by Aislynn Essibrath. With hopes to keep the momentum going, Windsor was unable to capitalize their opportunities and ended their season with a 2-1 loss behind Western.

Prior to the game the Lancers honoured their graduating seniors and the Blue & Gold would like to thank them for their hard work and dedication as members of the Lancer family.
