Simon & Kennedy double-doubles lift Windsor over Waterloo

The Lancer men's basketball team turned out a strong performance Saturday night to defeat the Waterloo Warriors 83-75 at the Dennis Fairall Fieldhouse.

The win split the week home-and-home series with the Warriors. Waterloo took game one on Wednesday night 81-75.

STATS
Thomas Kennedy had a game high 24 points and his fourth straight double-double with 14 rebounds. Senior Telloy Simon had his own double-double with 21 points and 13 rebounds.

Jayden Grewal led the Warriors with 23 points, while Nedim Hodzic had 18 points and a game high 18 rebounds.

GAME FLOW
The Lancers got off to a great start, scoring right off the first tip of the game. Thomas Kennedy gave the hometown fans in Windsor a great performance scoring the team's first 11 points of the game. Windsor would maintain a lead for the majority of the first quarter. However, due to Waterloo's strong defensive effort, the Warriors would take a brief lead that was eventually shut down by a three-pointer by Ziphion Grant, and a Shakeal Pryce free throw. The game would go into the 2nd quarter all tied up at 20.

The Lancers played a tough press that forced a turnover that led to a layup and one from Kennedy. Simon would add to the scoreboard with a fadeaway that gave Windsor their first lead of the quarter. Grant would hit another three that would serve as a momentum-shifting play. The second quarter was played with a tight scoreboard throughout. In the dying second of the quarter, Ben Mascarenhas would shoot a three-pointer that sent the Lancers into the half with a 38-36 lead.

The Lancers came out strong once again with a Kennedy layup and a steal by Jordan Fullerton that ended in a bucket. The Warriors went on a bit of a run but Grant block would turned that  momentum around to the delight of the rowdy Lancer fans. Windsor ended the quarter on a hot streak and led by four, 63-59 heading into the fourth.

Both teams came into the 4th quarter with a chance to throw this game into the win column. With a 68-61 lead midway through the quarter, a fastbreak bucket from Simon gave the Lancers a second wind, and Kennedy put the blue and gold up by ten with just under four minutes to go. The Lancers were able to hold onto their lead, winning the game 83-75.
