GAME FLOW
The Lancers were men on a mission against the Mustangs. Goaltender
Noah Giesbrecht was on fire in the first period, saving sixteen out of the seventeen shots that came his way. The Lancers did not have too many chances; however, they took advantage of the chances they got. Six minutes into the game,
Holden Wale would strike for the blue and gold on a power play. This would give the Lancers an early lead, but the Mustangs would come back later in the first with a goal of their own.
Â
Giesbrecht continued to impress in the second period. Kohn would have Windsor's first real chance of the period ten minutes in. This shot was saved; however, it would serve as a warning to keep Western on their toes. The Lancers would get their second goal of the game from former Mustang
Anthony Stefano who was assisted by
Mason Kohn. The Lancers would strike again with six minutes left in the period.
Jaydon Fetter would shoot an absolute missile, getting the Lancers a goal in spectacular fashion. The Lancers continued to dominate the second period with yet another marker, this time it was
Mel Melconian with the goal that was assisted by
Ben Assad and
Hunter Holmes in another great display of passing by the Lancers.
Â
Although the Lancers had four goals and a big lead, they did not hold back in the third and final period. For the first two minutes of the period, the Lancers stood around the Western net and let it rip. The Lancers would soon find their fifth goal through Melconian in the third minute of the period. Western would eventually get their second goal of the game with fifteen minutes left to play. This high-scoring affair would continue with the Lancers getting their sixth goal of the game with a stellar shot by
Brady Pataki. Western would respond quickly with a goal of their own, making the game 6-3 with ten minutes left to play. The game would remain scoreless for the last ten minutes of action, giving the Lancers a huge victory.
