Men's Hockey closes out 2021 with win over Waterloo

In their final game of 2021, the Lancer men's hockey team traveled up to Waterloo and came home with a 3-2 win over the Waterloo Warriors.

Windsor heads into the holiday break with a 7-2 record and sits in first place in the OUA Far West division.

STATS
Noah Giesbrecht closed out the first half of the season in impressive fashion, making 26 of saves. Warrior goaltender Dan Murphy was also busy stopping 29 of the Lancers 32 shots.

Ben Assad, Mel Melconian, and John Parker-Jones were the Lancer goal scorers in the win.

GAME FLOW
In their third meeting in a month, both teams came out firing on all cylinders. Windsor had five shots on net midway through the first period, but it was Dan Walker who would score first to put the hosts up 1-0 heading into the second period.

Windsor dominated the middle frame scoring all three of their goals in the period. Assad wasted no time tying the game up just 1:09 into the period. Seven minutes later Melconian would score his third goal in two game to put Windsor up by one. Capitalizing on a power play opportunity, Parker-Jones scored the eventual game winner to put the Lancers up 3-1 heading into the second intermission.

The Lancers displayed their defensive prowess during the final period that was supported by the outstanding play of Giesbrecht between the pipes. Tate Popple would steal a goal back from the Lancers at the 7:45 mark, but the Lancers held on for the win.
