GAME FLOW
In the first period, the Golden Hawks got off to a quick start finding the back of the net just 21 seconds into the game.
Ashley Maitre had a couple shots on goal throughout the period but was not able to finish off the plays. The Golden Hawks led the way 1-0 after the first period.
Â
The second period saw both teams get into the rhythm with more physicality in the game. With an assist by
Jessica Legault, Benjamin found Windsor's first scoring opportunity to tie the score. After a penalty call on Laurier for delay of the game, the blue and gold had an advantage and opportunity to open up a gap. Capitalizing on a few good passes,
Rylee Hogan scored to give Windsor the lead. The score remained 2-1 Windsor heading into the final period.
Â
The third period continued to push the pace for both teams after showing they were not ready to give up the game so easily. Laurier's Mackenzie Marshall came back to tie the game 2-2 and put both teams eager to make a breakthrough for the win that needed to be settled in overtime.
Â
With the momentum swinging their way, the Lancers went into high gear and
Elissa Benjamin scored her second of the game to give Windsor the sweep of the weekend series.
