Iwanicka adds goaltender Cadence Petitclerc for 2022-23 season

Lancer women's hockey head coach Deanna Iwanicka is pleased to announce her first addition to her 2022-23 recruiting class with the commitment of goaltender Cadence Petitclerc from Williams Lake, BC.

Patitclerc joins the blue and gold from the Okanagan Hockey Academy in Penticton, BC where she had the opportunity to play five games during the shortened 2020-21 year because of the pandemic. She posted a .952 save percentage and earned two shutouts.

Born in Salmon Arm, BC, Petitclerc began skating at the age of four, playing ringette until then age of ten when her family moved to Williams Lake. She took up hockey after the move and made the switch to goaltender just one year later.

Prior to joining the Academy, the 5'4 goalie played two seasons with the Northern Capitals Excellence program, which she was invited to join after a pair of seasons with their AAA program as an underage player. In her first year with AAA she ranked second in the league for goaltenders and earned team MVP honours.

"You don't win championships without a goalie," said Iwanicka. "Cadence is full of potential; she's got the right attitude and she's committed to her development. She left home, her small town of Williams Lake, to better herself as an athlete."

"Cadence is what many would consider to be a diamond in the rough - her exposure was limited in Williams Lake, and without a season this year, we were very lucky to have had the opportunity to become aware of her," Iwanicka continued. "She will make our team better as we build a championship U SPORTS women's hockey program."

She will study Psychology this coming fall and is looking forward to helping the Lancers build a championship program. "I chose UWindsor for the unique psychology program they offer and to be a part of their rebuilding to help put a strong name to the Lancers," said Petitclerc. "The time I have spent getting to know the team has been great and I look forward to being part of a great team, to make a difference and help the team achieve unprecedented goals."
