Three Lancers named to 2021 East-West Bowl Roster

The Windsor Lancers are pleased to have three members from the football team named to the 2021 East-West Bowl Roster. Recognized this year are wide receiver Matthew James, offensive lineman Ibrahim Hassoun, and defensive lineman Zack Susko.

"I am proud that these three student-athletes have been named to the East-West Bowl roster," commented Lancer football head coach Jean-Paul Circelli. "With all the adversity that the pandemic had brought upon their university experience, it was important that Matt, Zack and Ibrahim were recognized for their talent and ability. Though they will not have the opportunity to compete this week, I know they will be top performers this upcoming season."

The East-West Bowl roster recognitions celebrate the next generation of top Canadian football prospects, with 110 U SPORTS-eligible standouts identified for the 2022 CFL Draft, following completion of the 2021 Draft on May 4. The complete list of athletes selected to the rosters is below.

For the next year, players from both the east and west teams will vie for coveted spots on the CFL Scouting Bureau Top 20 Prospects List – published in the Fall, Winter and Spring – before showcasing their skills through virtual or in-person regional and national combines in advance of the Draft this time next year.

James is a fourth year wide receiver with the blue and gold. In 2019, he Appeared in 7 games with 23 catches for a total of 354 yards (average of 15.4 yards/catch) and 3 touchdowns. His best game that season was against Western when he had 7 catches for 180 yards and 1 touchdown.

"Matt is our most electric player and is a threat to score anytime he has the ball in his hands," said Circelli. "Matt will be a focal point of our offense this season and I expect him to be on many CFL scout's radar."

Hassoun played in seven games in 2019 and according to coach Circelli, "Ibrahim has quietly become one of our most reliable offensive linemen over the past few years. This academic all-Canadian is a force in the weight room and on the field and will be asked to anchor our young offensive line."

A third-year defensive lineman, Susko played in all eight games during his sophomore year in 2019, finishing the year with eight total tackles. "Zack has the prototypical lineman frame to play in the CFL," said Cireclli. "Despite the limitations of the pandemic, Zack has spent countless hours training and is ready to become a dominant force along our defensive line for the 2021 season."
