Women's Soccer shuts outs visiting Warriors

The Lancer women's soccer team got the weekend off to a strong start with a 1-0 victory over the Waterloo Warriors Friday night at Alumni Stadium.

STATS
Grace Melick led the team offensively with a goal and was assisted by Brooke Macleod.

Goalkeeper, Lauren Gellner helped keep the Lancers on top with 8 total saves. Windsor also led the game for shots on net with 19 total shots.

Waterloo made 14 total shots on net and goalkeeper Hannah Petrosino made 9 saves.

GAME FLOW
To start the game, the Lancers got off to a quick start on the offensive side with a shot on net by Emma Bealieau that went high. As the teams went back and forth on the pitch, Windsor made it difficult for the Warriors to strike and gain possession of the ball with most of the offensive plays going towards the blue and gold squad. At 30:14, Grace Melick found the back of the net with an assist by Brooke Macleod past Waterloo's goalkeeper, Hannah Pestrosino to put the Lancers up over the Warriors. At halftime, the Windsor had the lead 1-0 over Waterloo.

Heading into the second half, the Lancers continued to push back and keep the Warriors out of the Lancer box. The Warriors started to fall into a good rhythm and take more offensive risks yet the blue and gold remained calm and responded back with several attempts to score. With seconds left in regulation, the Lancers kept control of the game and were able to take the win at home 1-0 against the Warriors.
