Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer season comes to an end with OT loss to Guelph

In probably their most intense match of the season, the Lancer women's soccer team fought to the end against the Guelph Gryphons in the first round of the OUA post season. Despite a late push, the blue and gold fell 2-1 in overtime to the host Gryphons.

GAME FLOW
The Gryphons came out strong and put the pressure on the Lancer defence early. Christina Gomes passed the ball across to fellow Gryphon Olivia Brown who was sprinting up the side, but Gomes' pass went too far and out of Brown's reach. Twenty minutes into the first half, the Gryphons narrowly missed another scoring opportunity when they missed a header off a corner kick.

Windsor's best scoring chance came in the 35th minute when Kailyn Robertson almost put the Lancers on top from a corner kick.

Lancer goaltender Lauren Gellner made some impressive saves through the first 45 minutes, and the Lancers and Gryphons went into the half tied 0-0.

The second half was equally as intense as the first. Windsor put in a solid effort against a strong Gryphon attack to keep a clean sheet and keep the game tied 0-0 at the end of regulation.

Only two minutes into the overtime frame, Brown chipped one in above Gellner's head to give Guelph the go-ahead goal and take a 1-0 lead.  Violet Hipkin added another goal for the hosts in the 110th minute to give Guelph a 2-0 lead. However, the blue and gold refused to give up and brought the game within one in 119th minute with a goal from Kailyn Robertson.

However, time was not on the Lancers side and the final whistle blew giving the Gryphons the victory and a spot in the OUA quarter-finals.
