Lancer Football defeats York in Toronto

The blue and gold traveled up the 401 to face the York Lions in a rare Friday night game on Thanksgiving weekend.

Windsor pulled off a 33-10 victory and are now 3-3 on the season.

STATS
Quarterback Danny Skeleton completed 16 passes for a total of 195 yards in the air and 72 yards rushing. First year Brady Lidster punted 3 kicks for 115 yards, while on the defensive side, Cole Verlinde made a total of 6.5 tackles to keep the Lions back.

The Lions quarterback Noah Craney made 20 passes for 216 yards and defensive back Mack Bannatyne made 7 total tackles.

GAME FLOW
In the first half of the game, the Lancers got off to a slow start getting a feel for the chilly weather. With York on the offense, Windsor did not hesitate to push back as Verlinde was able to take down York receiver Victor Belanger and prevent him from making further gains on the Windsor line. York got up first on the board yet Lidster would help to equalize the game in the first quarter with a clear field goal to make it 3-3.

Lidster put up another field goal in the second quarter before York's Dexter Sargent recovered the ball on a fumble and returned it seven yards to the endzone for a touchdown. The hosts went into the half up 10-9.

Things started to pick up into the second half as the Lancer offense had some hidden tricks up their sleeve. Lidster and Joey Zorn combined for 51 yards on the ground, and three complete passes by Skelton put Windsor in striking distance. Christopher John pushed his way through the final two yards to put the Lancers ahead 16-10. The blue and gold punched in another short one-yard touchdown by Skelton before the end of the quarter to go up 23-10 heading into the final fifteen minutes.

The short game was the story of the night for the Lancers. Zorn added his fifth touchdown of the season with yet another one-yard run into the end zone, and Lidster added a 14-yard field goal to seal the 33-10 victory for the blue and gold.
