Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Lancers come from behind to defeat Lakers

The Lancer men's basketball team hosted the Nipissing Lakers at the Toldo Lancer Centre on Friday night and earned a 76-74 win to continue their win-streak and improve to 6-0 on the season.

STATS
The Lancers' Xavier Ochu poured in 16 total points and 11 rebounds while Thomas Kennedy had an 11-point, 12 rebound performance.

The Nipissing Lakers were led by Noah Lapierre who came out strong with a game high 31 points.

GAME FLOW
The first quarter saw the Lakers take off and gain an early lead as the Lancers were slow to start. Daniel Cummings would give Windsor their second basket of the quarter hitting a three but the blue and gold were forced into a timeout as they tried to recover from a 10-point deficit. On the run to cut down the Lakers lead, Najee Brown-Henderson broke away from the traffic to hit a smooth three. Cummings grabbed another three late to tie the game 19-19 after the opening frame.

Into the second quarter, the Lancers and the Lakers started to pick up the pace and put the Lancer fans on the edge of their seats. A blocking foul opened up an opportunity for the blue and gold to put up some points as Najee Brown-Henderson went to the free throw line and went 2 for 2. Still down by five, Windsor worked hard to battle back and overcome deficit as they played to their strengths. A huge block by Thomas Kennedy showed Nipissing who dominated on the court. Windsor battled back to make it an 8-point game but went into the locker room down 41-33 at halftime.

Windsor came into the third quarter with a renewed purpose after struggling on the offensive side against the Nipissing Lakers. With a nice release, Daniel Cummings would let the ball fly for his third 3-pointer field goal of the night. He went on to grab another three and Thomas Kennedy dumped one in the rim to move the Lancers within two points of the Lakers. Windsor scored 22-points in the quarter and were down 58-55 heading into the final frame.

The last quarter had Windsor quickly look to seize control of the game, but Nipissing also handled their offensive end well and made it difficult for the blue and gold to maintain possession. The blue and gold fought for every shot, making seven consecutive points and Najee Brown-Henderson stuck a three to tie the Lakers 69-69 with only 1:39 left. Tied again at 74, Brown-Henderson hit another three with only four seconds remaining in regulation to give the Lancers the win.
