Women's Basketball defeats Lakehead in fall finale

In their final game of the first semester, the Lancer women's basketball team earned a 74-63 victory over the visiting Lakehead Thunderwolves at the Toldo Lancer Centre.
 
The blue and gold head into the holiday break with a 4-5 record and sit in fourth place in the OUA west division.
 
STATS
Reine Ndome led the way for the blue and gold team contributing 13 points and 4 rebounds, while Harriet Carey and Julia Chiarot also landed in the double digits with 12 points each.
 
For Lakehead, Tiffany Reynolds played a key role for the Thunderwolves finishing off with a game high 20 points and 10 rebounds.
 
GAME FLOW
Windsor opened the game with a quick layup from forward, Vanessa Budimunda. On the run, Reine Ndome and Harriet Carey helped extend their early lead with two back-to-back threes. However, Lakehead battled back and halfway through the quarter, the teams were tied 15-15. The Lancers would gain momentum through to the end of the quarter, and Windsor would head into the first quarter break, up 28-25.
 
In the second quarter, the Lancers continued to add to their lead as Carey would hit another triple. Lakehead would respond well and kept themselves in the game, but the final play of the frame saw yet another three from Carey and the blue and gold headed into halftime 47-35 over Lakehead.
 
Windsor would quickly extend their lead shooting 44.1% from the field in the third quarter. Carey On the counterattack, Lakehead brought the game within five points but then struggled to convert as the blue and gold put up a solid wall to keep the Thunderwolves outside the paint. Through the Lakehead traffic, Maggie Denys went along the baseline for a bucket that got the Lancer fans up on their feet. Windsor led by eight heading into the fourth quarter, and played a solid final ten minutes to earn the victory.

Windsor will now break for the holiday season and return to action on Saturday, January 7th when they lead to London to take on the Western Mustangs. Tip-off is at 2:00pm and can be seen live at oua.tv.
