Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Lancer comeback falls short in loss to Mustangs

The Lancer women's basketball team lost 69-61 to the Western Mustangs on Breast Cancer Awareness Day at the Dennis Fairall Fieldhouse Wednesday.

STATS
Reine Ndome led the Lancers with 19 points and close behind, Mariame Dehkissia dominated the court with 13 points.

The Mustangs were led by Ariane Saumure who lit up the boards contributing a game high 23 total points and also led Western defensively with eight steals.

GAME FLOW
The Lancers came into the game with an extra edge to their shots and took an early lead.  Julia Chiarot had a good one-handed rebound from a pass by Reighan Dales to get by the Western traffic and put the hosts up by one. Although there was lots of turnovers, both teams were generally low-scoring and struggled to make offensive plays. After the first quarter, the Lancers led a 10-8 lead over the Mustangs.

In the second quarter, the momentum started to increase and ignite another gear with a change in intensity. Western started to respond to Windsor with more offensive shots and dominated in making scoring contributions. The Mustangs took over the court and dominated the second, giving them a 32-27 lead at the halftime.

The third quarter continued with a similar pattern as the Mustangs continued to dominate the court and hit shots that the Lancers struggled to keep up with. Alexa Neal found herself with personal foul troubles with 3 personal fouls. Straight out of the locker room, the Mustangs gained seven straight points with the Lancers continuing to trail behind. Western led 52-45 heading into the last quarter.

Windsor attempted to shift the momentum and look for ways to come back up on the board. Both teams were fairly even in scoring but Western would continue to strike and widen their lead. Saumure put on both a strong defensive and offensive effort to challenge the Lancers and keep them on their toes. Windsor began to chip away at the score but in the end, the blue and gold fell 69-61 to the Mustangs.
