Lancers dominate visiting Varsity Blues

In front of a boisterous home crowd, the Lancer football team defeated the visiting Toronto Varsity Blues 37-7 Saturday night at Alumni Stadium.

This is the first time since October 2015 that the Lancers have defeated their opponent by 30-plus points, and they now sit 2-1 on the season.

STATS
Quarterback Danny Skelton was on point for the blue and gold, going 19-for-30 for 259 yards and a touchdown. Receiver Finn Bradbrooke led the Lancers in the air with 6 receptions for 7 7yards, while Joey Zorn had 56 yards on the ground.

Christopher John contributed 44 rushing yards and a touchdown, while kicker Brady Lidster went 3-for-3 in field goals. Defensively, Liam Hoskins had nine total tackles.

Toronto quarterback Kinsale Philip went 10-for-19, 88 yards and one touchdown. They were led on the ground by Adam Williams with 41 yards, and defensively by Dominic Ciraco with a game high 11 tackles.

Overall, the Lancers had 479 total offensive yards to Toronto's 157.

GAME FLOW
Although the Lancers were at home and coming off their bye week, it was Toronto that would snatch momentum early. The Blues stopped the Lancers on a third-and-short near midfield and quickly took advantage driving the ball 50-yards, and scoring the first points of the contest with a 16-yard touchdown pass from Kinsale Philip to Daniel Diodati.

With the touchdown, and a 7-0 lead, momentum appeared to be on Toronto's side but that was not the case. The Lancers would respond with back-to-back Lidster field goals to pull within one, before taking their first lead on a two-yard Chris John touchdown run with 6:21 to play in the half.

Then with only seven seconds to play before the break Lidster connected on a 42-yard field goal to send Windsor into halftime with a 16-7 lead.

Windsor would go on to score a major on their first drive of the third quarter. Zorn accepted a 21-yard pass from Skelton to put the Lancers ahead 23-7. On the final play of the third quarter, Dealius Danso had a no yards fumble recovery to put the blue and gold up 30-7 heading into the final frame. Windsor would add a 30-yard touchdown pass to Daniel Thrasher to round out the scoring late in the fourth.
