Blue and gold continue 2023 winning streak

Introduction:
In their second game of the weekend doubleheader, the Windsor Lancer women's hockey team took an exciting 3-2 win in overtime to top off the weekend against the Brock Badgers on home ice.

Stats:
The Lancers were led offensively by Keana McKibbin with 2 goals on the night while Jaden Cherry also contributed 1 goal and 1 assist. On the defensive side, Cadence Petitclerc-Crosby was able to minimize the Badgers' scoring opportunities with 34 saves out of 36 shots on net.

Game Flow:
To open the first period, the Lancers looked to grab a second win of their weekend double header as they came out on the attack. In the Windsor zone, Brock's Claudia Murphy made her way around the net to try to wrap around a shot but Windsor's goalie, Cadence Petitclerc-Crosby, was able to cover up in time. A scoring opportunity came when the Lancers sent the puck up the ice for Keana McKibbin to fire the puck past the Badger's goaltender, Kenzie Harmison, to put the blue and gold up 1-0. With 10 minutes remaining in the period, two penalties were called that put both teams down by one player. As the Lancers started to pick up the momentum and take control of the game, more attempts were made especially by centre, Elissa Benjamin, to move the puck towards the net. After playing the majority of the frame on the defensive side, the Badgers were finally able to draw even as Madison Cronkwright got in front of the Windsor traffic and past the Lancer goalie. The Lancers and Badgers were tied 1-1 after the first 20 minutes of play.
The second period had Windsor and Brock pick up the pace as both teams searched to breakthrough. A close opportunity arose as Rorie Ringer fired a shot into the glove of Harmison, but it bounced back out into the traffic. The Lancers and Badgers displayed more back and forth battles yet neither goalie would allow pucks to go through. The game remained tied 1-1 heading into second intermission.
Heading into the third period, the blue and gold came out on the offensive attack to further increase their chances to convert. After the Badger's Allison Moore was called for checking, the Lancers gained an opportunity to score with an extra player advantage. On the powerplay, after a shot by Emily Eikelboom, Keana McKibbin was able to grab the rebound and tip it into the middle of the net to recapture the Lancer lead, 2-1. For a late response with just over 9 minutes remaining, the Badgers' Claudia Murphy found the opening the squad had been waiting for and sent the puck top left to tie the game again, 2-2. Windsor and Brock headed into overtime tied 2-2, both teams determined to come out with the win.
Into overtime, Lancer goalie, Cadence Petitclerc-Crosby was able to hold her ground with 34 saves on the night and Keana McKibbin made the final play in the last 2 minutes to lead the blue and gold to a 3-2 victory.
The Lancers will head up to Waterloo to face the Laurier Golden Hawks on Friday, January 13th with puck drop at 7:00pm. Watch the game live on OUA.tv.
